Check Rail

In conjunction with Spoornet, Pandrol SA has developed a Check Rail system for use on concrete sleepers. Spoornet’s requirements are that Check Rails must be used in sharp curves to reduce excessive wear on the high leg of the curve and to prevent derailments.

The first installation of 2km was carried out in 2004 at Waterval Boven (Mpumalanga). Due to the success of the initial installation, additional track has been upgraded on an annual basis in the same area.

This system has also been developed for lighter rail sections, and anticipate it being installed in the very near future.
